Application Procedure

Admissions Policy

Students are admitted without regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex or religious affiliation. Casa di Mir reserves the right to select students based on educational compatibility with the Montessori program. We are looking for families who share our values about what an education can be. Our goal in admissions is to find a good match between student, family, and school.

Application Procedure

Applications are available starting November 1 of each year for the following school year. Group observations are held for the Lower Elementary and Primary Classes. Applicants to the Upper Elementary classes are observed on an individual basis. The application packet includes an evaluation form for your student’s current teacher. The teacher evaluation must be returned by the teacher to Casa di Mir prior to the student observation.

Applications will be date and time-stamped in the order they are received by the school. However, please note that the date the application is received is not the main criterion for acceptance to Casa di Mir. The date your application is received will be considered in the event that there are more students than we can accept who are equally qualified.

Observation of Students

All students are observed prior to entering Casa di Mir. This is not a formal test, but a visit to the classroom, observation of the student and conversation with the teachers. Primary students are observed in the classroom setting. They may choose jobs to do and may be asked specific questions about numbers, letters, reading, etc. Elementary students are given a more formal evaluation, with tasks to complete and a conversation with the teachers. The application process also includes a review of the application and parent questionnaire; review of the current teacher evaluation; and a meeting with the parents.

In March the enrollment committee will meet to review all applicants. Parents will be notified of acceptance in early April.

School Tours and Classroom Visits

A visit to the school by the parents is required prior to acceptance. Appointments may be made through the office for a school tour and classroom observation. We ask that primary-age students not attend this observation during a regular school session as it is disruptive to the young students in the class. You may arrange to bring a Primary applicant to the classroom after school. Elementary-age students may visit during the school day with their parents.

In order to get the most out of your visit we ask that you review our Visitor Guidelines (Elementary Visitors or Primary Visitors.)

Open House

An Open House for interested parents is held each year in late January or early February. Please call the office for the date.

Waiting Lists

We do not maintain waiting lists for future years. It is the responsibility of the parent to obtain an application for the appropriate enrollment year. Waiting lists are created only after we have filled all available openings. These wait lists do not carry over from year to year. A new application must be submitted each year.
