Admissions Policy

Casa di Mir values a diverse community and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex or religious affiliation. Casa di Mir reserves the right to select students based on educational compatibility with the Montessori program. Our goal in admissions is to find a good match between student, family, and school.

Procedure

Application packets are available starting November 1 of each year for the following school year. Parents are required to visit the school and meet with the Admissions Director to learn more about the program and curriculum prior to submitting an application. Primary and Lower Elementary applicants are required to attend the assessment day on March 5. Upper Elementary applicants will be scheduled for assessment on an individual basis. The application packet includes an evaluation form for the applicant's current teacher. The teacher evaluation must be returned by the teacher to Casa di Mir prior to the student's assessment.

Observation and Assessment

As part of the application process, all students are required to attend an assessment visit. This is not a formal test, but a visit to the classroom, observation of the student and conversation with the teachers. Primary students are observed in the classroom setting. They may choose Montessori "work" and may be asked specific questions about numbers, letters, reading, etc. Elementary students are given a more formal evaluation, with tasks to complete and a conversation with the teachers. Assessment also includes includes a review of the application and parent questionnaire; review of the current teacher evaluation; and a meeting with the parents.

School Tours and Classroom Visits

Appointments may be made through the office for a school tour and classroom observation. We ask that primary-age students not attend this observation during a regular school session as it is disruptive to the young students in the class. Elementary-age students may visit during the school day with their parents.

In order to get the most out of your visit we ask that you review our Visitor Guidelines (Elementary Visitors or Primary Visitors.)

Open House

We encourage all applicants to attend our annual Open House, which provides an opportunity to meet and interact with our faculty and administrative staff. The Open House for families interested in the 2010-11 school year is scheduled for Sunday, January 31 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Please RSVP by calling the school office at (408) 370-3073 or by sending email to admissions@casadimir.org

Waiting Lists

We do not maintain waiting lists for future years. It is the responsibility of the parent to obtain an application for the appropriate enrollment year. Waiting lists are created only after we have filled all available openings. These wait lists do not carry over from year to year. A new application must be submitted each year.
