Casa di Mir students held the annual Jog-a-thon charity fundraiser on May 3 with great success. This year–with the help of Casa’s Girl Scout troop, which helped identify the charity–they chose to raise funds for the Human Society of Silicon Valley.
Students from the Elementary and Middle School, along with two Primary students, ran a combined total of 1,468 laps—or 367 miles—and earned an impressive $4,500 in pledges.
A Casa staffer heard that if students gave their gift by May 15, they could meet a gift-match deadline set by another Human Society donor. The students quickly collected their pledges and beat the deadline, giving a check to the Humane Society on Friday, May 12. Their efforts contributed $9,000 to shelter animals in our community!
Many thanks goes to art and physical education teacher, Miss Jillian, for coordinating the event.
The Jog-a-thon is an annual Casa di Mir Montessori School fundraising event that is among a number of school efforts where students help the larger community. Helping others is a core part of a Montessori education; it builds student awareness and compassion, and instills the confidence to make a difference.
