Lower Elementary

Learning How to Think
(6 – 9 years)

Casa di Mir's Elementary program is focused on the development of internal organization of thoughts and ideas, the capacity for imagination, and the thirst for understanding the universe. The Cultural Studies of history, geography, zoology, and botany are integrated into an understanding of the universe and life within it, thus giving a context for everything studied during the lifetime of the individual.

"Let us give the child a vision of the whole universe... for all things are part of the universe, and are connected with each other to form one whole unity." – Maria Montessori

Classroom

The school year begins with an emphasis on establishing a positive culture in the classroom. Students learn about Non-violent Communication (NVC), also known as Compassionate Communication. They are guided to understand their values and the qualities they wish to develop within themselves. In our culture of safety and trust, children develop positive attitudes toward learning and the uniqueness of each child is celebrated.

In the classroom, students move between independent work and collaborative group work throughout each day. They learn to manage time effectively, choose work independently, and learn to meet due dates for their work.

Teacher to student ratio: 1:15

The core difference between Lower and Upper Elementary students is the degree of depth and specificity in their studies.

If you are looking for a great environment for your child, with small classes, super-low student to teacher ratio, highly qualified and credentialed teachers, and a proven hands-on, project-based teaching methodology, you simply cannot pick a better school in the South Bay Area (in my humble opinion).
